Los Angeles Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – Autumn/Winter 2007 |
Los Angeles Fashion Week is taking place this week. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week creates a center of attention for such design houses like Joseph Domingo, Sue Wong and Bebe. More than 20 designers are set to show their ideas for autumn/winter 2007-08 at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, California this week.
Juan Carlos Obando has already presented his very feminine collection for next season. Long ecru hanger dress with a cashmere cropped coat opened his show. Obando’s collection was full of ruffles and his trademark black tights.
Bebe’s ultramodern “War and Peace” collection was all about sharp lines, slick textures and military looks, with the peace symbol as a graphic theme. Rebecca Romijn and Bebe spokeswoman, Eva Longoria were the stars to fill the seats at the show.
“It’s war and peace in more of a literal sense, rather than the Tolstoy novel,” Bebe’s designer David Cardona said before the show. “It’s not period. It’s a little toy soldier meets a sexy little girl and becomes a peaceful angel.”
During Dina Bar-El’s show, “Burlesque” varied collection of dresses was presented. The show started off with a limber Forty Deuce dancer, who impressively somersaulted down the runway. Bar-El accessorized her feminine outfits with long gloves and vintage hats.
Kimora Lee Simons is planning the party of the week. Such celebrities as Lindsay Lohan, Whitney Houston, Mary J Blige and Harvey Weinstein are all expected.
There’s no doubt that L.A.’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week doesn’t have the status of its New York Fashion Week counterpart. The designers aren’t as big here and they prefer to present their collections at more affordable showcases during L.A. Fashion Week.
