H&M announce collaboration with Comme des Garcons
Rei Kawakubo fashion showJapanese founder of the Comme des Garcons fashion house, Rei Kawakubo, would guest design a capsule collection for H&M to launch this autumn. The collection will consist of womenswear, menswear, childswear and a unisex scent and accessories.

“I have always been interested in the balance between creation and business,” says Kawakubo of the collaboration. “It is a dilemma, although for me creation has always been the first priority. It is a fascinating challenge to work with H&M since it is a chance to take the dilemma to its extreme, and try to solve it.”

“Rei Kawakubo has been on the top of our wish list for a long time and we are thrilled that she has chosen to collaborate with us,” adds H&M creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch. “We have tremendous respect for Kawakubo’s fashion philosophy questioning fashion’s ingrained patterns and we admire her artistic approach to design. We are particularly excited to launch the collection in Kawakubo’s native country at our launch in Japan.”

Comme des Garcons follows an esteemed list of designers who have worked with H&M, which includes Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf and Roberto Cavalli. The collection designed by Rei Kawakubo will probably be very interesting and will sell out fast because she’s often breaking many traditional rules of design and she creates dramatic and innovative designs. Her collection for H&M is certainly something to look forward to.

Meanwhile vogue.co.uk published the exclusive photo of H&M’s summer campaign, which features supermodel Daria Werbowy. The new range for spring/summer 2008 will include maxi dresses, kimono-sleeved tops, fringed scarves, swimwear and heavy wooden accessories.

“We wanted to create something very colourful and light, with stand-out print,” says H&M’s new creative director Ann-Sofie Johansson. “We were inspired by hot holidays in Africa, India, Hawaii and South America; hence ethnic-style prints such as tropical flowers and leaves, ikat designs, dip-dyes and ombre effects.”

Last year pop superstar Kylie Minogue appeared in H&M’s swimwear collection called “H&M loves Kylie.”
