Haute Couture fashion week in Paris - Spring/Summer 2007 collections |
The show has begun. Around 25 designers will show their haute couture collections during the most expensive week of the international fashion. Today Elie Saab, Anne Valerie Hash, Valentino and Christian Dior will show the latest haute couture creations for spring and summer 2007.
 Haute couture shows attract extremely rich people who can afford the most expensive clothes in the world. For the designers it’s a chance to celebrate fashion as an art. Haute couture collections are created with unlimited budgets, but today no more than 500 women in the world buy clothes in haute couture houses. Almost certainly that is the reason why designers want to attract celebrities to their haute couture shows. Haute couture desperately needs new customers. Cate Blanchett, Rosamud Pike and Mr and Mrs Cruise are going to seat in the first row during the Armani’s Prive show.
Haute couture was established in Paris at the end of the 19th century. To be called an haute couture house, a business must belong to the Syndical Chamber for Haute Couture in Paris, which is regulated by the French Department of Industry. The houses generate more than 1 billion dollars in annual sales and employ close to 5,000 people. After World War II, during fashion's golden age more than 14,000 women wore couture. Among others Chanel, Christian Lacroix, Nina Ricci, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Jan Paul Gaultier are haute couture houses.
