The CFDA announced the nominees for its 25th annual Fashion Awards |
The Council of Fashion Designers of America has announced that Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler’s Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, and Oscar de la Renta are up for the prestigious Womenwear Designer of the Year Award at this year’s CFDA’s.
Ralph Lauren will be honoured with the first ever American Fashion Legend Award to celebrate his 40th year in the industry.
“No one deserves it more,” said council president Diane von Furstenberg when she announced a list of honorary award winners at a cocktail reception at Rockefeller Center on Monday. “His vision and innovation epitomizes American design excellence and continues to set the standard in fashion,” the council added in a statement.
In the accessories category Derek Lam is up against Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs. For menswear, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein’s Italo Zucchelli, Duckie Brown’s Steven Cox and Daniel Silver are up for the Men’s Designer of the Year award. Pierre Cardin will receive The International Award.
In the talent categories, Phillip Lim, Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte, and Thakoon Panichgul were singled out for womenswear. Michael Bastian, Tim Hamilton, and David Neville and Marcus Wainwright for Rag & Bone for menswear.
U2’s Bono will receive the Board of Directors Special Tribute during the 25th annual award ceremony, that will take place on June 4 at the New York Public Library.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America is a non-profit trade association founded in 1962. The organization sponsors the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, scholarships, and professional development programs. The CFDA’s annual awards ceremony is often called “The Oscars of fashion.”
