Drew Barrymore fronts Giles Deacon’s collection for New Look
Barrymore in Deacon dressHollywood actress will be the new face of Gold by Giles collection for the retailer New Look. Barrymore and Deacon reportedly met by chance in an hotel elevator and the actress eventually agreed to be his model. The range, that includes animal print and embroidered skinny jeans, cotton mini dresses and a range of accessories, such as over-sized sunglasses and jewellery, will only be sold at U.K. store New Look.

“I was very specific about high quality in the fabric, cut and design, whilst keeping in line with New Look budgets,” Deacon told Vogue. “I chose to work with New Look because they offered me a continuous relationship, where I'll be designing four ranges each year rather than just a one-off collection,” he added.

“I think it’s quite insulting to think that a person who can’t afford to spend £1,700 on one of our frocks therefore doesn’t understand design. That’s one of the things I liked when we met New Look. They wanted it to be different from whatever else is going on,” Deacon said.

British Designer of the Year said Drew Barrymore was his number one choice to front his creations. “She’s highly intelligent, a great businesswoman and a role model, but she’s also someone that’s made mistakes in the past and come through and I think people respond to and respect that,” he said.

“Drew is a real icon and more importantly a real woman who loves fashion but is not dictated to by it,” a New Look spokesperson said.

Giles Deacon is the current British Designer of the Year. He has recently presented his new collection for autumn/winter 2007-8, a debut collection for Daks which appeared on the catwalk in Milan and he has a bag line just launched with Mulberry. For the last six months he has also been working on a Spring Gold collection for New Look which is fronted by Drew Barrymore and model Agness Dean.
