Kris Van Assche replaces Hedi Slimane as creative director of Dior |
Kris Van Assche has been chosen to succeed Hedi Slimane as creative director of Dior. The Belgian designer had previously worked for the label before he launched his own line in 2005. Kris Van Assche was chosen by LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) for his reputation for fine tailoring and comprehensive knowledge of the company.
 Hedi Slimane has produced six years of successful shows for Dior but talks over Slimane’s contract at the house of Dior reached crisis point and the company decided to replace him. Contract negotiations between Slimane and Dior had been proving difficult since last June, mainly because Slimane was keen to start his own label and he didn’t want to loose the rights and ownership of his name.
“Slimane is reluctant to give up control of his name and has set a high price tag on the value of his trademark,” WWD sources reported.
Dior decision has shocked the fashion industry as Slimane presented very impressive collection last month in Paris.
