Madonna’s H&M collection goes on-sale |
 A line of clothing co-designed by pop queen Madonna went on sale around the world Thursday in branches of Swedish fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz (H&M). The collection includes skinny pants, pencil skirts in basic black, tailored blazers and shirts, kimono dresses, a leather trench coat, cream-colored calf-length pants and such strong accessories as patent heels, clutch bags, skinny belts and sunglasses.
“Madonna worked closely with H&M’s director of design, Margereta Van den Bosch, to create this collection,” says Jennifer Uglialoro, spokeswoman for the Swedish retailer H&M. “She’s a style icon, and everything that is going to debut has Madonna’s personal style incorporated into it.”
H&M had previously successfully collaborated with fashion designers Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld and Viktor & Rolf.
“We always like to surprise our customers with innovative collaborations, and this collection isn’t any different,” says Uglialoro. “Based on the positive response we’ve seen, we expect it to do very well.”
“I’ve made no secret of my love of fashion over the years. Working with Margareta and H&M was an exciting and new creative challenge for me. I’m really happy with the results and look forward to wearing ‘M by Madonna’ along with the rest of the world,” the singer added.
Jean Paul Gaultier has expressed his interest in the collection. “I will go and have a look,” the designer told WWD. “Maybe I will buy something. I certainly will not ask her for a present. She loves fashion, so she has something to say about it,” he added.
