Kylie Minogue’s stage costumes go on display in London |
An exhibition of Kylie Minogue’s stage costumes, awards and accessories has been launched at the Victoria and Albert Museum in central London. The gallery will showcase more than 200 of the designer costumes and accessories created for the Minogue since 1988, including the gold hot pants she wore in her Spinning Around video, Dolce & Gabbana white minidress she wore at the 2002 Brit Awards and gold Grecian outfit she chose for the party in Milan in 2002.
 Kylie Minogue stepped out for the first time since she and actor Olivier Martinez announced their split at the launch party for a museum exhibition in London. The singer, who wore a purple Dolce & Gabbana gown, Bulgari diamonds and Manolo Blahniks didn’t answer any questions about the break- up of her long-term relationship with Olivier Martinez.
Kylie Minogue said she was “honoured and overwhelmed” to see the exhibition of her costumes. “There’s all the questions about should the V&A do this, if people are so concerned about the V&A and respecting what they do, this was the V&A’s invitation to me and I gladly said yes,” she said.
Mark Jones, the director of the V&A, said that the show is “one way of understanding this kind of celebrity. We are a museum for design in all its forms. The V&A is not an art gallery. It is a museum of contemporary and historic design. The underlying assumption, which I don’t think is necessarily the right assumption, is that everything you see in a museum is a tribute to the individual involved. That may not be the case. It’s clearly the case that celebrity plays an incredibly important part in 21st century culture,” said Jones. “The V&A tries to understand mega-celebrity from the point of view of design,” he added.
Kylie – The Exhibition runs from February 8 until June 10 and displays singer’s glitter stage outfits. Australian singer’s fans won’t find any of her every day life outfits on the exposition.
