Alexander McQueen opens store in L.A. but Paris Hilton is not welcomed |
British fashion designer Alexander McQueen is opening his new store in celebrity land Los Angeles but he’s made it quite clear the clientele he is waiting for doesn’t include Paris Hilton.
“If she comes past the shop, hopefully she will just keep walking. I don’t really covet that sort of thing. I’m not too fond of these openings, I find them quite superficial,” said McQueen. “The people who wear McQueen wear it because they want to wear it, not because it’s the new thing in town.”
Although McQueen revealed that he would need to have a lot of red carpet dresses available in his new store he also made it clear in the past that he isn’t too fond of certain celebrities. “I can’t get sucked into that celebrity thing because I think it’s just crass. I work with people who I admire and respect. It’s never because of who they are,” he told US Harper’s Bazaar last year. He also politely declined to invite Victoria Beckham to his London show few years ago.

H&M announce collaboration with Comme des Garcons |
Japanese founder of the Comme des Garcons fashion house, Rei Kawakubo, would guest design a capsule collection for H&M to launch this autumn. The collection will consist of womenswear, menswear, childswear and a unisex scent and accessories.
“I have always been interested in the balance between creation and business,” says Kawakubo of the collaboration. “It is a dilemma, although for me creation has always been the first priority. It is a fascinating challenge to work with H&M since it is a chance to take the dilemma to its extreme, and try to solve it.”
“Rei Kawakubo has been on the top of our wish list for a long time and we are thrilled that she has chosen to collaborate with us,” adds H&M creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch. “We have tremendous respect for Kawakubo’s fashion philosophy questioning fashion’s ingrained patterns and we admire her artistic approach to design. We are particularly excited to launch the collection in Kawakubo’s native country at our launch in Japan.”

Beauty trends for spring and summer 2008 |
Key beauty trends for spring and summer include: colored eye shadow, stained lips, rosy cheeks, strong brows, flawless skin and voluminous and out-of-control hair.
This season isn’t only about bright clothes; bright is also make-up for the spring/summer 2008. We saw bright eyes at Karl Lagerfeld, Richard Nicoll, Missoni, Sonia Rykiel and Anna Sui. You should definitely buy couple of different shades to mix up, experiment and get different looks. Bold colours like blue, green or yellow are hot for spring but pastel colours as seen at John Galliano and Maxmara look pretty and delicate and are also summer staple. We saw smoky eyes inspired by Amy Winehouse look on the catwalk as well.
The new lip looks for spring are bold. From avant-grade green and blue
at Vuitton and Valentino, strong red at Todd Lynn and claret at
Dolce&Gabbana, to glossy cerise at House of Holland. We can forget
about nudes this season, it’s all about experimenting with bold colours.

Enjoy Fashion
Fashion influences our lives in so many ways. Through clothes we can express our personality and make them speak for ourselves. Fashion changes constantly. It’s hard to believe that it’s only fifty years since fashion became so popular. More and more people are now interested in clothes and become passionate about fashion. Everyday when we make the decision of what to wear, we become more and more fashion conscious.
Fashion companies like Chanel, Christian Lacroix, Nina Ricci, Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior still make their haute couture collections, but what really counts are their ready-to-wear collections, shoes, accessories, perfumes and cosmetics. Designers want to show people the glamorous side of clothing by celebrating their tradition of quality and attention to detail, and inimitable sense of luxury. But at the same time designers strive to come up with new, original ideas which they hope will attract more and more people to their clothes and accessories.
Celebrities, movie stars and ordinary people are interested in looking good in their clothes. But it’s good to remember to enjoy fashion in our every day life in order to become a fashion victim. Fashion should make us feel good and look good. So do your best to make your fashion experience fun and exhilarating.
